seven screens - reactive led-columns, 2007
Seven 7.5 meter tall LED columns occupy a field of grass between the Osram building and the "mittlerer ring" (the most frequented road in Munich). These screens react to the by-driving traffic, "reflecting" and visualizing the enormous traffic. Every passing-by car is detected with the help of camera tracking system, and their presence is shown in the form of glowing trails on the columns.
These traces follow the cars over the 70 meters of the installation but also add to the collective memory over time. The total number of the cars during one day gradually build up during the day, converting the calm waves in the morning to a storm of light in the evening.
